When a company built on human performance designs its own workspace, specifications become unusually precise. Equinox's 117,000ft2 or 11,000m2 Hudson Yards headquarters embodies the wellness principles the brand delivers to its members, requiring workspace solutions that support extensive screen-based work while maintaining ergonomic principles. This shaped every technical decision, including monitor mounting for the open workspace environment.

Working with Innovant's CROSS Benching system, the project demanded monitor arms capable of supporting large displays while delivering the adjustment range wellness-focused employees expect. Atdec's FORTIS proved essential, providing mechanical performance for 34" monitors while maintaining the clean visual discipline the space required.

Performance architecture for wellness professionals

The specification reflected Equinox's understanding that optimal ergonomics require genuine adjustability rather than fixed positioning. FORTIS delivered 17.5 inches or 444mm of horizontal reach and 13.5 inches or 342mm of vertical travel, allowing users to position displays at proper focal distances and viewing heights regardless of individual anthropometrics or task requirements. The smooth fingertip adjustment mechanisms enable position changes throughout the workday without disrupting concentration or requiring physical effort that undermines the ergonomic benefit.

For furniture OEMs serving clients in the wellness sector, this represents a critical partnership requirement. Equinox employees understand ergonomic principles deeply; inadequate monitor positioning would contradict the company's core values. The FORTIS dynamic arm accommodated this performance standard while integrating with Innovant's benching architecture. The arm's capacity for monitors 35 pounds or 16kg meant the 34" curved ultrawide displays specified for the project operated well within the mechanism's range, ensuring consistent performance across all workstations.

Visual discipline in open environments

The Hudson Yards workspace employs exposed concrete, natural light, and material restraint to create its refined aesthetic. Monitor arms needed to disappear into this vocabulary rather than assert themselves as technical additions. FORTIS achieved this through cable concealment that routes connections through the arm structure, eliminating the visual clutter that typically accompanies large display installations in open plan environments.

The black finish throughout the installation reinforced the spatial coherence Innovant's CROSS Benching established. In environments where workstations occupy prominent positions within the architecture rather than peripheral locations, finish coordination between furniture and mounting hardware becomes essential to maintaining design intent. The arms function as structural elements integrated with the desking system rather than accessories added afterward.

FORTIS heavy duty dynamic arm

FORTIS handles large displays to 35 pounds or 16kg, accommodating monitors to 49" for substantial futureproofing. The dynamic arm travels with smooth fingertip adjustments for optimal ergonomics. Concealed cable management routes connections through the arm structure, maintaining clean sightlines in open environments. Vibration resistant and robust.

Available in black, silver, and white finish.

FORTIS technical features

FORTIS employs a gas strut mechanism that delivers exceptionally smooth motion throughout its adjustment range while maintaining vibration resistance during use. The fingertip control allows effortless repositioning without compromising display stability. A built-in 180° rotation limiter prevents monitor swing beyond designated boundaries, avoiding interference with walls, partitions, and adjacent workstations. This proves essential in benching environments where spatial coordination matters.

Futureproofing through capacity

Beyond immediate project requirements, the FORTIS specification addressed display evolution. The arms support 49" productivity monitors, providing substantial headroom beyond the current 34" installation. As screen technology advances and workspace requirements change, the mounting infrastructure can accommodate larger displays without replacement. For furniture manufacturers managing long-term client relationships, this capacity matters considerably; it prevents obsolescence that would require entire workstation updates when only display technology has changed.

The Equinox installation demonstrates how monitor arm partnerships extend beyond mechanical function. When wellness principles drive workspace design, every component must support rather than compromise those objectives. FORTIS delivered ergonomic performance matching Equinox's standards while maintaining the visual refinement and technical futureproofing that define successful furniture partnerships in premium workplace environments.
